Pochettino Signs new 5yr deal to 2023.

Great news I'd say for stability during this phase of our Clubs progress.

There were worrying tones of uncertainty in some of his interviews towards the end of the season but it looks like he is committed to hopefully seeing his ''project" through.

Now he has quite openly stated that it's time for us to win Trophies and it's time for us to take more of a risk.

Let's hope that transfer strategy was a big part of him putting pen to paper (not buy out clauses) and now we need clear and concise Transfer activity!

We need to be direct with what we need and obtain the targets we are in for. If there is not 2 or 3 significant upgrades to the contribution of the 1st team we will stand still and as is always dangerous in this league to Stand Still can be relative to going backwards.

Also Poch who has had a number of seasons to stamp his authority on and mould the team in his image Now needs to start delivering in the Transfer market and on the Trophy front.

No starting the season with basement buys and a will he won't he sign/leave hanging over the club regarding players.

No slow starts stumbling to dull draws and inability to score goals for the 1st month and a half. We need to be up top from the off.

None of this banging head against an 11man brick wall with out trying different tactics and personnel to take advantage.

No more Naivety and lack of leadership on the pitch, perhaps a New appointed Captain is necessary?

Either way Stability wise it's great news for the club , but there are a few issues that can't be left to continue if we are to reach the next Level and for Poch to gain deserved Legendary Status !

Was very surprised to see him commit as I was convinced he was on his way out.. Hopefully this new deal means he's been given the assurances he's been seeking regarding transfer upgrades and salary caps. Sadly too late to keep Toby so hopefully we get top dollar and its given back to poch to reinvest to the transfer kitty or war chest lol we wish.

Totally agree with the above think yes it’s great to have stability at the club but this is the summer that will count and will show where we are going as a club as in transfer fees and wage structure, without putting the dampers on todays news unless we sign quality players that will improve our starting 11 or at least threaten the starting 11 berths then what progress is that from the last 3 seasons under poch. This is good news for the club, there was definitely lots of uncertainty as the season waned. This is a great first step of the off-season, next we need to approach the market and get our transfers in early. We have a strong team and as mentioned above, are in need of a couple more talented players who can push their way into the starting 11 and/or provide the necessary cover/competition to push the whole squad.

As it seems we may lose Toby(hopefully no), I do hope we won't make the same mistake of selling him to a top rival. The Kyle Walker deal helped city as much as it hurt us in terms of even being able to challenge for the league.

If we are saying we need 3 quality signings... What position needs to be strengthened and who would we like to sign.? I'd love bale but the wages would kill us. I'd take martial sessagnon and someone like kondogbia. Think Johnny Evans would be a steal with his buy out clause of around 3m as a backup to our centre halves.

We need a Leader in CM that drives the Team on and doesn't settle into comfy through the motions mode .
A Second Striker that can play instead of and alongside Kane , but Poch also needs to be flexible with set up and play to suit.
We also need upgrades on Lamela & Sissoko & Aurier.

Who these people are is down to Levy/Poch/Scouting team who should have a clear plan on whom they are.

Sessengon & Martial good but r they pushing us on? Big fish in a small pond , Small fish in a Big Pond players

I think sessagnon is a massive talent and HAS to be signed. Martial would definitely improve the squad and would be a starter for me from the left. Son and moura to battle it out on the right flank. Obviously that would mean eriksen and alli to fight it out for the no 10 spot which woukd really bring the best out of each other. Could even play the 4141 system that City deploy.

I would agree that Martial's good talent, but for now...Son's way ahead of him in the pecking order. I do agree with you that Sessegnon has to be signed. Martial's a decent option, I'd prefer Zaha; he can play up top, got lots of pace and can make something happen out of nothing. We have nobody like him in the squad. Moura I think will also show us more of what he can do, after having a full preseason.

Ever since Luka left for RM, we've lacked a true deep lying playermaker. Someone of that type that can push Dembele and not always have to resort to having Eriksen drop...we need him more forward. On the back end, I like Mawson...he'd be a good player for us. In the middle, it's tough to guess who might come in. There's a real lack of good playmakers in football, I think Lanzini might be a decent midfielder to acquire. We'll see. COYS!

    Just a thought.

We made around £40m net profit after tax last year, £33m the year before. Say, just saying, we paid an average £40k average weekly wage increase to these guys, some more like H, the Dane, Verts, less to say Dier and Davis, none to Toby as he's going to go. £300k per week, £15m per year, so nearly halving what profit we've made. Now herein lies our problem.

DL has a DNA that just doesn't allow himself to make decisions that wipes away 40% of his annual profit.
Also bear in mind that replacements for the likes of Sisocko, Pamela, Aurier and the like will cost more per week, you can wipe away another £5-10m.

I just think he can't bring himself to do it - he knows he needs to, but his hand won't allow him to put pen to paper...

    ..Just a thought.

Intresting to see how the off season goes from here .. I always felt Poch was very loyal to the chairman and a lot of his interviews were towing the party line as such but the last one or two deff had a different tone to them .. Now was it all about getting a nice juicy contract for himself or was it really about taking us to the next level .. I think what happens between now and the window closing and his tone in his press conferences over this period and early next season will reveal plenty .. Don't get me wrong here I'm a fan of Pochs and think he's done fantastic for us so far under serious restrictions compared to others .. Of course he has his faults , he's not perfect but nobody is .. Great start to the off season for us but we have a lot left to do ... Onwards and upwards hopefully , we live in hope don't we .... C.O.Y.S ......

I'm not sure about that Felon. Okay I'd like us to keep Toby, pay him the money, double H's salary, give the rest an extra £xxK per week, buy ready made PL players, but life isn't like that, unless you are a Sheik, an Oligarch or you've got Manure's cash clout and a tosser of a manager to waste most of it.

What we've achieved these past three seasons, with one at Wembley, has been nothing short of amazing. In 50+ years I have never enjoyed my football as much. Home and Away we are a force, with only Sheik City way out ahead.....

We shouldn't get carried away too much about Poch's new deal. In my opinion, we'll probably offload Toby and use most of his fee to bring in 2 or 3 players. DL wants Spurs to be self sustaining club business-wise in the long term. It's tough to knock him too much because he's really being overly responsible and that can't be a bad thing. City won the title, truthfully though they won't it half as much as they bought it.

If DL allows Poch to bring in the players he wants and gets them in early without haggling over pennies, to me that's tremendous progress. Truthfully we are really 2 to 3 players away from challenging, players of true quality!

Anyone that see Bale win the CL for Madrid in a 15 minute Cameo that wouldn't love to see him back at Spurs needs to watch again.
Superb bicycle kick and a trademark knuckleball shot world class match winner!

The only problem now is whatever slim hope we had of signing him has now dissapeared with that performance sadly.

Honestly felon when I read comments on here saying that bale is past his best or wouldn't be worth signing I really do question myself as to what I actually know about football anymore lol.
That goal was outrageous and if there is any chance of doing this deal it needs to be done. The boy wins games on his own. He does it for Wales he did it last night and he used to do it for us.

If Fergie was still at Utd he'd be doing whatever it took to get Bale over and he'd ''manage" Bales situation as to minutes/injuries etc because hed know exactly what Bale brings and can do.

Plenty of players we are linked with may be decent or have 'potential' but they're not gonna kick us on to the next level , Bale raises our quality immediately and proper clubs with proper ambition are in the market for these type players it's as simple as that.

Really hope he states his desire to come home as that puts levy who installed the first option in the first place in a really difficult situation. I think he knows a pay cut will be needed but like he said last night he just wants to play football matches. If he was to be paid 200 a week I think Harry and Co would understand and accept that. If we can sign a player of that Ilk would Toby and Dembele then commit.??

    Or

Line up with Bale in the side?

It's a no brainer. Unless it's warped like Levys
