It's Ground Hog Day......for the 100th time, at least. I don't look closely anymore. Why would I. 99% of all the rumours and gossip come to a big fat Zero, zilch.

£50m plus for Walker - difficult to turn down, for me. He's had a good couple of seasons, but I for one wasn't sad to see Trippier get game time, particularly in a 3-5-2 formation. He needs to work on his defending though.

Dier for £50-60m.....personally I would take the money, but with a proviso, which is that with over £100m to spend, that we really do have a master plan that reinvests the cash in quality additions. For me a back up for Eriksen and Kane are key, plus two back four players......and while you are at it Daniel have you sorted out that £100k per week deal for that nice man Toby Aldeweireld.....

We kick off in a little over three weeks and we have signed NOBODY. We are now in the Champions League and we have signed NOBODY.

Here we go.....another Ground Hog Day will be here soon.....ffs.......the delights of being a Yiddo 'eh.

Never judge a player by his price tag,big name means big wage 150-200 per week!!!!!!
we upset the team balance, get a ego to match,NO top player will play second fiddle to Kane and sit on the bench,he wants number one status and the team built around him I can not see this working, why not get back up's as Bazza points out more lodgical and cheaper and willing to work in a system with team mates......

Have to agree Nomadico, we had a young team last season, so who is to say that a 'journeyman' like Morata would be better than Kane this season, like Costa or Ibrahimovic or Lukaku were last season. That goes to all the strengthened positions in all our rivals against our last season's squad. Why is buying a player better than improving the good, young player that you already have. We certainly need some cover for positions but not at the expense of marginalising great young players like Harry Winks.
It's last pre-season again, but all the expensive buys of our main five rivals saw only one finish above us. We prioritised league position last season but could, of course, have parked the bus all season and won a couple of trophies, but who would have been happy with that?

Every year we have the same problem certain fans on here demand 'Big Name' Signings with massive price tags just to show we can compete with our rivals,I agree we DO need to get some good back up's as cover but not the ego and price tag to live up to that these player's bring with them, our rivals spend because they failed last season so buy again and try again is there business model, we have a settled team that do not need this massive input of new player's,every year we have made progress and now is the time for the team to win some thing, it is up to them to play for it..COYS

That's right let's be content with what we have , who needs to improve when you have onomah?

It's as easy to say the team have and will improve as it's easy to say they may have already peaked?

Let's not forget how woeful and out of our depth yet again we were in Europe, let's forget it's coming up to 10 years since we won a major honour as long as we have an academy all is rosey those dumb money spending trophy winners just look at them improving their teams/squads they haven't got a clue.

And people calling them selves fans wanting the club to be more ambitious in the transfer market need to get a grip I mean what do they want a Trophy? A Title?......

I'm not too concerned about the situation at right back as I'm sure something is in the pipeline there as the club knew walker would be on his way out the club months ago. I think we need a centre half centre mid and a winger who could play CF if Jansen continue to struggle.
I'd imagine the budget is around 30m minimum ... Add to that the sales of walker 50m bentaleb 16m njie 6m fazio 6m and probably wimmer 15m sissoko 15m. Thats around 140m.
I'd break the bank for van djke 60m kovacic 25m Barkley 20m and maybe look at someone like martial from man utd.
Imagine a back three of van dyke Toby and Jan to improve the leagues already meanest defense.

It's amazing how many people have given-up supporting Spurs as a football team, and seem instead to see it as an endless 'project', supposedly progressing at a snail's pace towards the goal of 'not doing a Leeds' while the glory that Spurs are meant to aspire to is grabbed by the Big Boys. In a mediocre season Man U equalled our trophy count for the last quarter-century! Arsenal have won the FA Cup three times in the last four years! Presumably the increasingly inappropriate and embarrassing slogans which used to adorn WHL won't figure in the Joe Lewis Memorial Stadium - 'to dare is to do' replaced with 'always jam tomorrow' perhaps.

    Exactly Cheshuntboy!

Where has the desire to win Trophies gone?

There's a Legion of brainwashed fans that come across like they're anti winning!

Poo pooing other sides that collect trophies on the regular because our never ending 'project' is far superior.

To seriously sit there and say we don't need any signings or we just need some back up standard is laughable. The whole aim of sport is to improve and win!

And before the default setting of 'look at leeds' and 'look at the 90s' are chirped up we are far from either of those scenarios so to harp back to them is just desperate.

Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur as an anthem should be changed to We have all the time in the world!

Sorry that Felon and I are preaching to the converted (each other), but so many of the beliefs of the Levy loyalists are so obviously and stupidly wrong. 'This young term can only get better' - why? Look at Spurs back in the dreaded '90s, when we supposedly had the best crop of young players in the country (even including Old Trafford, in Terry Venables' opinion). When we faced Arsenal in the '93 FA Cup semi I expected us to win, and thought we were entering one of the periodic power shifts in North London, because George Graham seemed to have lost his managerial mojo, while our future looked rosy - how wrong was I! They polished off the domestic cups while we stagnated, and then the brilliant appointment of Wenger propelled them to a level we've barely approached in twenty years.'It takes years to build a winning team' - wrong! Wenger transformed Arsenal from the mid-table mediocrity of Rioch to double-winners in a couple of years, while the ups and downs of Chelsea since the stupid appointment of AVB show how much a winning team depends on a winning manager, and ours has much to prove in that department. The culture of 'it could all be a lot worse' rather than 'it should all be a lot better' seems to permeate much of the support, and makes it easy for the owners, manager and players to get away with second best (and that's what last year's supposedly great season was, when all's said and done).

This morning, having watched the You Tube highlights from the US, I all of a sudden could hear the words of Levy and managers past and, worryingly present echoing in my ears....."we don't need to strengthen the squad" or weasily words akin to that.

I then read the Martin Samuel article in the Daily Mail talking about a quote from Poch and whilst I don't wish to remember the precise detail, it sounded like the Chairman speaking....."focus on youth', and, and,......"

It was the first time this transfer window that I'd stumbled across those dreaded words, those words that you hear quoted of the manager, but in reality you know came from the Paymaster General...Ming the Merciless.

A blind man knows we need to add to the squad. That we have a beautiful team is true, but 11 gifted footballers (and probably the best overall team since the Double team) do not a 2017-18 campaign make.

Last night I watched the end of season finale....sad, but true. We secured 17-2-0, 53 points, 47 for plays 9 against at The Lane. The best in my memory and I'm 70 in September. We cannot repeat that at Wembley with the current squad. We have to build, and soon.

In truth I'm feeling a little numb now, not because I've had a couple of beers, but this Ming Mentality could seriously impair our team, to do what their beautiful talents deserve......winning something.

Sure I want them to play like last season, the best watch in the league by a country mile, but now more than anything I want them to win something.

Tottenham I love you, I do, but more than anything I want you to WIN something.....Please!!

I understand trading Walker, he wasn't invested anymore in the club and we got a decent return for him. To those saying, let Dier or any other players go....seriously?! How do you think it would affect the morale of the club, the likes of Kane, Alli, Lloris would lose faith in this process. Bringing in replacements would be a nightmare as well; considering the inflated prices on players these days.

We have a really good squad, we don't need a high influx of players or exodus. I like the idea of Kovacic, guy's a hell of a player and would take lots of pressure of Dembele considering the amount of competition we'll be in.

It's fair to say Walker had already developed as a player, Dier hasn't...he's only 23 and just getting used to playing in the middle. He's decent on freekicks, can hit diags with accuracy, decent distant shot, good header of the ball. This kid wouldn't not be easy to replace. Give him time and he could end up being as good as Carrick.
